Hearing Aid Fittings and Programming
During a hearing aid fitting and programming appointment, we will calibrate your devices to meet your specific needs, which include:
- Your lifestyle needs and personal preferences
- The type of hearing loss you have (sensorineural, conductive or mixed)
- The extent of your hearing loss, including the range between just barely heard and too loud
- Your experience with amplification
A combination of these factors will determine exactly how your devices are adjusted. We rely on your feedback to let us know how your hearing aids are working for you. People who use hearing aids often say that these small devices are one of the best investments they’ve ever made. Once you’ve acclimated to this new way of hearing, you’ll wonder why you waited so long to visit us!
After Your Hearing Aid Fitting
We’ll give you all the information and tools needed to excel with your devices from day one, including:
- How to properly insert, remove and store them
- How to clean and care for them
- How to replace their batteries or charge them (if rechargeable)
If your hearing aids come equipped with Bluetooth connectivity or other advanced features, we will help you take full advantage of all of the features your device has to offer.
Remember, it can take some time to get used to the way the world sounds with your hearing aids, so it’s best to take a slow and steady approach. Many of our patients wear their hearing aids for longer periods of time each day until they’ve fully adjusted while others are so excited that they use their devices full-time from the start. Our staff is always here to answer any questions and offer support along the way.

Follow-Up Care and Hearing Aid Maintenance
While hearing aids are incredibly modern today, they do require some upkeep from time to time. We can help you keep your devices in proper working order.
Most retail hearing aid centers bundle the cost of providing follow-up care for the estimated 5-year life of the hearing aids into the product price. That means you pay a lot up front (for care you should but may not use). We separate out follow-up care from the product price, charging separately for important professional services, during the selection, fitting and post-fitting adjustment process in the first 30 days. We offer follow-up Sound Care plans from 90 days to three years but recommend at least the one-year plan for new hearing aid users with an option to renew annually or use the “a la carte” pay-per-procedure option after that. Routine cleaning and checkups are recommended every six months, plus annual electroacoustic analysis of the hearing aids.
If you need assistance in between checkups, we can help you troubleshoot product issues over the phone or can often get you in quickly. Some hearing aids now have smart phone apps that let you contact us to request settings changes. We can send changes to the app for you to upload to the hearing aids.
