Sheryl’s Story
Dr. Boatz is a licensed audiologist in Indiana and Illinois. She obtained a B.S. in Speech Pathology in 1979 and M.S. in Audiology in 1980 from Illinois State University. In 1982 she obtained the Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She earned her doctorate in audiology from the Arizona School of Health Sciences of A.T. Still University in 2005 and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology the same year.
She founded Sound Care Audiology, Inc. in 2008, an independent audiology practice that focuses on diagnostic testing and evidence-based hearing aid dispensing. The practice’s current goal is to fully implement all of the “best practices” guidelines for hearing aid dispensing that were developed by the American Academy of Audiology.
Dr. Boatz previously worked in an ear, nose, and throat medical practice for seven years following twelve years working in hospitals in gerontology and rehabilitation departments. Prior to focusing on medical audiology, she was a pediatric/educational audiologist for six years. Along the way, she has worked part time as a contract audiologist in a federal prison, an adjunct university instructor, and an examiner for the Illinois hearing aid dispenser examination.
